ENDURANCE CHALLENGE - INFO DOC
Race doc will be published closer to event date!
Description
Welcome to the Bear Creek Trailathon Winter Endurance Challenge!
- Event date is January 11th, 2025
- Start time is 9:00AM
The Winter Endurance Challenge is a timed, loop-style "race" taking place over the course of a 6, 12 and 24 hour time frame.
As this is ultimately a charity fundraiser, there is no minimum distance requirement; however, awards will be given to the runners (or run teams) who complete the most mileage by the end of the time period. Participants may run/walk one mile or as many as they'd like with the allotted time frame. The course will consist of a 1.3 mile and a 3.1 mile (5K) loop options. Runners may traverse any combination of these 2 loops throughout the day.
If you're aiming for a new distance PR or just looking for a fun day with the running community, this is the event for you!
The event will start at 9AM and end at 3PM, 9PM or 9AM on the 12th. All laps must be completed by the cutoff time to be counted.
Although we’re no longer organizing a mass start 5K race in the afternoon, we will still plan to offer a timed 5K lap for anyone who would like to have one timed/recorded. This will be for bragging rights and potential prizes. Just let a staff member at base camp know when you’re ready, and they’ll time and record your lap.
The Winter Endurance Challenge is a charity fundraising event presented by Stellar Scoops Ice Cream Shop, Foothills Outdoors and North Moore Lions Club. Proceeds from this years event will go to Western NC Hurricane Helene Victims. By the the time this event takes place, a few months will have passed and the news media will have likely forgotten about the victims of Hurricane Helene. But we will not forget. We will do what we can to help! 100% of the proceeds from this year's event will go to Western NC.
Join the event and invite your friends on Facebook! Coming soon.Add the event to your Garmin Connect Calendar! Coming soon.

If severe weather forces a reschedule, there will be an attempt to host only the 6hr and 12hr events on the following day - Sunday, January. 12th.
COST OF ENTRY
You may notice online registration though UltraSignup is greatly discounted compared to other events, we do ask that all participants plan to make a personal registration donation on race day.
Your online registration is more of a "reservation" to let us know you plan to attend. Although charitable donations are not required or enforced, they are expected!
We'll leave it up to you to decide how much you want to donate but please remember: the heart of this event is to raise money for charity.
100% of the profit will be donated to charity!
Cash, PayPal & Venmo accepted.
Again, registration fees have been kept as low as possible for the sole purpose of allowing those who can, to donate.
And for anyone who can't donate, we still want you to participate!
Note- Even though registration is "cheap", we won't be. We don't skimp.
Rest assured, aid stations will be stocked and the course will be prepped and ready.
THE MISSION / HOW IT WORKS
The main goal of this event is to raise money for charity this holiday season!
This year we'll be donating all proceeds to help those in Western NC impacted by the devastating effects of Hurricane Helene.
Fundraising may be accomplished through individual or group sponsors. No personal sponsors? No problem! The Bear Creek Endurance Challenge team will be coordinating with local businesses to set up monetary pledges contingent upon group distance requirements. Generally speaking, fundraising for mileage may be counted in a few different ways (these are just ideas):
- Total accrued mileage for everyone at the event
-
- Example: A local business may have previously pledged $100 donation to charity dependent upon the total combined distance of the entire group reaching, for example, 100 miles, 200 miles, etc
- Total mileage of a group / relay team
- Example: A high school cross country team may be specifically sponsored for a certain amount dependent upon predetermined distance requirements
- Total mileage of an individual
- Example: Friends, family or employers may choose to sponsor an individual for reaching a distance goal, or based upon X amount of dollars per mile
As an individually sponsored athlete, it is your responsibility to collect and donate raised funds in a timely manner. Donations/fundraising money from individually sponsored athletes must be submitted to race directors no later than Saturday, January 18th at 11:59PM.
